Spring Show 2019

A week of strong winds set a challenge for the participants of the 2019 Otterton Spring Show held on Saturday March 16th. Tales of how to find that illusive perfect bloom that had remained undamaged in the blustery weather was a common discussion point as the 259 exhibits were being staged.

The Floral Decoration classes were a spectacle with 13 displays, many of which had been beautifully put together by the residents of The Old Vicarage Retirement Home. The themes were “Spring Tonic”, “Five Star” and “Little Gem”.

The Young Growers winner was 5 year old Lara Campbell with her excellent daffodils. The children had had fun making totem poles from kitchen tube, decorating cup-cakes and painting Sir Walter Raleigh. Junior would be Masterchef contestants competed for the Lemon Drizzle Cake class with Ellie Wiles coming second (ahead of her Mother, so guess who will be doing the cooking in future!).

The photography theme was “Spring” and won by Angela Marshall. The winner for exhibitor gaining the most points was a runaway success for Angela Marshall, followed by Sharon Young, Eric Paver and Jane Bennett.

Overall the show was well supported with many visitors enjoying both the dazzling displays and socialising with the help of ample tea and cakes. The Club wishes to thank all the participants, visitors and helpers who made this such a great social event.

The Autumn Show will be on September 14th with classes in Cut Blooms, Pot Plants, Floral Decoration, Fruit, Vegetables, Home Made Produce, Children’s Classes and Photography (see www.ottertongardenclub.co.uk).
