January 15th 2019 AGM and a Talk by Liam Idzikowski ‘The Art of Winemaking at Lyme Bay Winery’

A talk on winemaking at Lyme Bay Winery, past and present.

February 19th Geoff Porter "Building a nature friendly garden in South-West France"

Geoff will talk about the trials, tribulations and rewards of Developing a garden and re-wilding 15 acres of land in France.

March 19th Dianne Long "Devon Gardens Trust and the work of County Gardens Trusts"

Dianne will talk to us about the works of the DGT whose aim is to conserve and enhance Devon’s horticultural heritage, gardens and designed landscapes.

April 16th David Usher on “Gertrude Jekyll: Her Plants and Designs”

David was head gardener at Hestercombe where he was charged with the restoration of Miss Jekyll’s planting schemes. David will talk about the life and work of Gertrude Jekyll and her influence on our gardens today.

May 21st Social Evening and Talk by Richard Horswood entitled “Freshfields - a Garden from Scratch”

Richard, chairman of the Alpine Garden Society will take us through the creation of his own garden at Freshfields.

October 15th Mary Benger on “My Passion for Plants”

Mary is the creator of Burrow Farm Garden from a clay pit of brambles and nettles
to the beautiful garden that exist today. Like most of us Mary is a plantaholic and
we look forward to hearing about her favourite plants.

November 19th Social Evening and Talk by Paul Rendell entitled “Hairy hands, devils and black dogs”

Known as ‘Dartmoor Paul’ he is an enthusiastic speaker about Dartmoor Paul talks about witches, devils, hairy hands and wild animals can all be found in this talk which is about legends and folklore on Dartmoor.

January 21st 2020 AGM and a Talk by Chris Birchall entitled “Herbaceous plants for the shade”

Chris spent 12 years as a Park superintendent for the EDDC and 3 at Rosemoor before setting up Tale Valley Nursery. Chris talks about shady areas in the garden are amongst the more difficult to plant so hopefully we will get some good tips about what does well in these spots.

Admission to talks is free to members, £4.00 to non-members (£5 for Social Evenings)

Refreshments and raffle tickets are available at all meetings and shows. Please use our fund- raising tables for spare plants, pots, magazines, etc.
